Women In The City: A Styled Portrait Session

Join Chanel for a styled shootout with Midtown Atlanta as the backdrop. You are encouraged to shoot alongside Chanel as she demonstrates how she chooses various backdrops for her subject, utilizes light to enhance the mood, and poses her subject while helping them relax in front of the camera. She will teach you how to bring visual interest to the frame while helping your subject pop. You are encouraged to have experience with shooting in manual mode.

Learning Objectives:

- Learn how to direct and pose a subject with intention and how to help the subject relax in front of the camera
- Learn how to convey a mood in your images by bringing all of the elements within the frame together
- Learn how to choose a backdrop to help tell a story with your images and capture your viewer’s attention

Artistic Soul: Creating and Executing Art-Driven Portraits

Join Kelsey as she demonstrates her systematic approach of how to plan and execute styled, art-driven portraits. Kelsey will share her strategy from the inspiration and brainstorming stages, through the planning process which includes sourcing models, location and wardrobe. You will then have the opportunity to shoot alongside Kelsey as she shares the process of how to pull every detail together and bring creative visions to life. She will show you her techniques for shooting and posing in this class with 3 models (one real couple and one female model). You will gain a greater understanding of how to utilize light, angles and camera settings. She will also discuss everything from posing to post-processing (workflow, editing).

For this class you should bring your camera and up to two portrait lenses.

Learning Objectives:

- Learn how to concept and organize styled shoots, no matter the scale
- Learn to build a vision based on things from everyday life
- Learn how to reach out to other creatives to collaborate and execute shoots
- Learn how to think more creatively "on your toes" when posing and shooting
- Learn how to create your own content and build your own portfolio for social media and website marketing through organizing these types of shoots

- Learn how to use your environment and natural light to set the tone and mood of the portraits

During this shooting class we will explore how to create depth in our portraits. Images that have a layered look draw the viewer into the frame and enhances the mood or story. Push yourself further by incorporating personal or found items during your portrait sessions to create fine art images. Shoot alongside Kristin as she explains what she is looking for with found elements that can add color, texture and lines to help compose images, along with where to place your subject and how to use the light to enhance the image and your vision. Birth photography is becoming one of the fastest growing genres in photography. Preserving the ability to be welcomed in the birth space has never been more crucial. However, if birth photographers do not know how to handle themselves professionally in a medical setting, as well as on social media, their ability to tell these stories as authentically as they are right now could be compromised. In this class, Neely will teach you how to build relationships not only with your clients, but with the hospital staff as well, from the nurses, to the doctors and midwives. You will also learn how to overcome harsh light, and utilize flash effectively and professionally. Given the intimate nature of birth photography, understanding your client's level of comfort is crucial when composing and curating what images are shared publicly. The class will cover what to and not to shoot, what to do in emergencies, and where to stand in the OR. The course will also cover how to find your voice as a birth photographer.

- Learn how to make a name for yourself and gain the trust of medical professionals in the birth community

Confidence In Front Of The Lens: Mastering Self Portraits

Self-portraiture can seem like an intimidating genre to get started in. But really, just like any other genre of photography, the focus should be on storytelling, even when it’s just you in the frame. During Chanel’s shooting demonstration, you will watch as she sets up for a self-portrait session, and walks through her decision making process from beginning to end. 

Chanel will begin her demonstration with a discussion on self-portraiture, and why it’s important to participate in the practice. She will also explain how she decides on a theme and incorporates styling and props to emphasize her theme in the session. During this indoor shooting demo, Chanel will share the tools needed to get started with shooting self-portraits, helpful techniques to nail the shot, and tips to get comfortable in front of the camera. You will leave feeling confident and ready to put yourself in front of the lens.
